WebSphere MQ FTE Product Overview

IBM® WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition provides an enterprise-grade managed file transfer capability that is both robust and easy to use. WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition exploits the proven reliability and connectivity of WebSphere MQ to transfer files across a wide range of platforms and networks. WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition takes advantage of existing WebSphere MQ networks, and you can integrate it easily with existing file transfer systems.

WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition supports both binary and text transfers and will automatically convert between the code pages and the end of line conventions for the source and destination systems for text based transfers. For example text files sent from Windows® based systems to z/OS® systems are converted from ASCII to EBCDIC code pages.

WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition will deliver an SOA-ready solution for managed file transfer that leverages the market-leading WebSphere MQ transport to move files between IT systems with reliability, security, and auditability.

Planned capabilities include:

  • Managed file transfer solution that does not require programming
  • SOA-ready approach to managed file transfer, enabling files to be moved to an SOA infrastructure that includes universal messaging backbones and enterprise service buses (ESBs)
  • Delivery of files reliably, using the proven WebSphere MQ transport, eliminating the need to depend on File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
  • Automation and control of file movement between IT systems
  • Log of transfer activity for audit purposes
  • File transfers that are fully automated - including scheduling and triggering transfers when file-related events occur
  • Bulk transfer of files, regardless of their size
  • Graphical interface for remotely configuring transfers and monitoring their progress
  • Scripting support for programmatic control of transfers
  • Support for a range of platforms including Microsoft® Windows®, Linux™ on x86, Sun Solaris, IBM AIX®, HP-UX, and z/OS

Architecture

  • Enables remote GUI configuration and admin using same tooling as MQ
  • Tooling publishes transfer requests to Backbone
  • "Agents" running alongside Queues managers publish audit trail to Coordination Center
  • "Agents" monitor file directories, load/unload files & perform pre- & post-transfer activities
  • Coordination Queue manager publishes transfer status, process and audit trail
  • Coordination Queue manager requires MQ V7.0
  • Multiple Coordination Queue manager could control transfers, capture audit log and Publish status
